Professional In-Office teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental procedure worldwide.
In-office Laser whitening (also known as Power Whitening, Professional Whitening or Chairside Whitening) takes place under carefully monitored conditions. This allows for the application of a super whitening gel activated by a special light system.
This system gives results that are visible immediately.
There are many different scientific theories to explain how the whitening process works. Essentially it is a physical removal of stain or chemical reaction that assists to lighten the tooth colour.
It is the chemical breakdown of the colour molecules (chromogens) in the tooth structure that happens through an oxidation process. This is activated by the whitening product that is applied to the tooth. Most commonly a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.
A LED lamp helps to generated mild heat which can accelerate the process.
Your lips & gum tissue is isolated & protected, the whitening materials is applied & an LED lamp may be used to accelerate the process.
The product is removed, tooth shade & comfort levels are assessed, & the process is repeated up to 3 times in some cases.
A LED lamp is not always needed. When it is used with appropriate whitening products it can accelerate & support the process by initiating the chemical reaction.
Dental Professional monitored & administered whitening procedures are safe and effective procedures.
To date, there is little published evidence documenting any adverse effects. 55-70% of patients will experience tooth sensitivity, which is usually transient and can be managed with simple application of topical products.
There is no evidence of long-term consequences of sensitivity.
Absolutely, we have completed a lot of further education & searched far & wide for alternative products & techniques that can promote less sensitivity.
We can absolutely tailor the process for you.
Beauticians or Kiosk type services are only permitted to use 6% Hydrogen Peroxide or less & 18% Carbamide Peroxide or less. As dental professionals we are qualified to dispense & prescribe patients with treatments @ much higher concentrations safely.
The results of low concentrations of low-quality products can produce a desiccated or dehydrated effect. The whitening product does not penetrate the tooth surface effectively & does not allow the effective breakdown of the stains (chromogens or stain molecules). This means that the product will cause either an alkaline or acidic effect on teeth, creating a false positive result. This can lead to excessive use of products & an unsuccessful cycle of treatments or maintenance program.
Dental Professionals are educated & qualified and have the competence to perform Teeth whitening safely & to help manage your expectations.
We will conduct a thorough evaluation of your oral health & help you select the most appropriate treatment option(s).
Remember that your ideal shade may just be a refresh rather than a blindingly white result.
This is dependent on your lifestyle & diet, but you can expect results to last 1-3 years with an appropriate maintenance program in place.

Simply put, NO! There is no clinical evidence or studies to suggest otherwise.
For our younger clients 16 years & older (with parental permission), Dental Whitening can help promote self-esteem and self-confidence.
The process is conducted under very safe and gentle conditions. Even though the teeth are younger, this does not necessarily make them more susceptible to sensitivity.
There is no upper age limit, older people can whiten their teeth, in fact, less sensitivity will generally be experienced. This is because the tooth has aged & has a less penetrable inner tooth structure.
There are no studies or evidence to support safety during pregnancy or breast feeding.
It is not recommended. In fact, studies have shown that there is a natural presence of Hydrogen Peroxide (whitening material commonly used) found in breast milk. WOW!
Let’s leave any need to use this product until baby is thriving & Mumma is ready.
Yes, you can!
These areas are vulnerable surfaces and can be more sensitive, so we protect them with dental dam prior to the whitening treatment.
Research has shown that Hydrogen Peroxide was still present when such materials have broken down.
